At Starved Rock Regional Center, we are a nonprofit organization guided by care, compassion, and a deep commitment to families. We believe every child deserves to be supported with love, and we bring that dedication into every service we provide. We are honored to serve as a trusted provider of Early Intervention and Child Care services for families in LaSalle, Bureau, and surrounding counties.
Our Mission
Starved Rock Regional Center provides quality services to children with, and without, special needs and their families so that they have equal opportunity to live, learn, and play in their community.
History
Starved Rock Regional Center for Therapy and Child Development (SRRC) has been a cornerstone of support for children and families in our region since 1947. What began as a grassroots effort has grown into a trusted, community-based organization dedicated to improving the lives of those we serve.
Our story starts with Streator business leader Henry M. Light, whose vision and compassion led to the creation of the LaSalle County Chapter for Crippled Children. At a time when resources for children with physical and developmental challenges were extremely limited, this initiative provided critical support, advocacy, and hope to families who often had nowhere else to turn. His leadership laid the foundation for a mission that continues to guide us today.
As the needs of the community evolved, so did our organization. We partnered with Easter Seals, becoming Easter Seals of LaSalle & Bureau Counties. This affiliation allowed us to expand services, access broader resources, and align with a nationally recognized network dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities. During these years, we strengthened our programs and extended our reach, helping more children achieve developmental milestones and greater independence.
In 2015, we made a pivotal decision to become an independent organization once again. This transition was driven by a commitment to local impact—ensuring that more of the funds raised within our community would directly benefit the children and families who live here. With this renewed focus, we adopted our current name: Starved Rock Regional Center for Therapy and Child Development. The name reflects both our geographic identity and our comprehensive approach to care.
Today, SRRC continues to build on this legacy by offering high-quality, individualized therapy and developmental services. Our programs support children with a wide range of needs, including physical, occupational, speech, and developmental therapies. We take a family-centered approach, working closely with parents and caregivers to create personalized plans that foster growth, independence, and confidence.
More than just a service provider, SRRC is a partner to families and a vital part of the community. We remain deeply committed to accessibility, compassion, and excellence—ensuring that every child has the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. As we look to the future, we carry forward the same spirit of dedication and local support that inspired our founding nearly eight decades ago.
