What began as a small annual Fall Fest in the parking lot of Starved Rock Regional Center’s childcare center—created just for the families we serve—has grown into one of our most exciting and impactful community events. The original celebration featured a simple trunk-or-treat with creative displays by families and staff, along with dancing, games, and pumpkin decorating contests.
With a vision to expand its reach and impact, Beth Campeotto and Samantha McKee reimagined the event as a larger community fundraiser. In 2019, they partnered with the LaSalle County Fairgrounds and transformed Fall Fest into a public Trunk or Treat. The response was overwhelming, with attendance exceeding expectations in its very first year. Local businesses were invited to participate by hosting themed trunks, offering treats to children while connecting with the community. That same year, a staff-created haunted house was introduced, quickly becoming a favorite attraction.
As the event continued to grow, it became clear that even more space was needed. In 2025, the Trunk or Treat moved to the LaSalle Speedway and Event Center, allowing for increased attendance and greater community involvement. Today, the event welcomes over 200 cars of guests and features more than 20 participating trunks, along with bounce houses, food, games, and raffle baskets.
